Online Zoom Classes – May & June, 2026
May 5 ~ Jagged Rocky Cliff or Shoreline
In the past, I have focused on smooth rock formations. In this class, I will show you some techniques using flat brushes to create jagged rocks. Flat brushes lend themselves perfectly to this type of rock formation. Using a primary palette of colours (reds, blues, yellow and white), we will create a wonderful range of colours for rocks. I will demonstrate some colour combinations so that you can create a personalized chart of colours.
May 12 ~ Yellow flowers
I think yellow flowers are so beautiful. Before this class, spoil yourself with a nice bouquet of yellow flowers. You will notice so many more colours than you once thought. Each type of yellow flower has a unique colour palette. Some have yellow-green shades, orange shades, bright yellows, deep yellows…on and on. Here is a list I will be using in this class: cadmium yellow deep, yellow orange Azo, cad. yellow medium, cad. yellow light, cadmium orange deep, pyrrole crimson, manganese blue and white. I have not decided which yellow flower I will paint yet. I have so many favorites.
May 19 ~ Hollyhocks
Besides sunflowers, hollyhocks are my other favourite tall flower. They come in a variety of colours. I love how they sway. Hollyhocks tell me summer is in full swing. They are usually near fences or along the south side of a home. They love the heat. I will be painting pink hollyhocks.
May 26 ~ A Path in the woods
There are so many painting opportunities when you explore a path in the woods. They are one of my favourite subjects to paint. I always look forward to those moments when the light shines through the trees. I love the way the shadows fall on the path. In this class, I will point out some tips on how to develop a background when there are a lot of trees. Choosing the group of trees to focus on can sometimes be confusing. Remember, you do not have to paint everything you see in your reference to create a beautiful painting.
June 2 ~ Strawberries
June is strawberry season. I love strawberries! I can’t believe I have not painted a still life with strawberries before. I will be photographing the strawberries in a few different compositions which I will include in the introduction. I think that the fun part of painting a still life is that you get to create the subject in a composition the way you want to portray it. You can just have the strawberries on their own or you can add other items around them.
June 9 ~ Beyond the Gate
I find gates so interesting. They can portray an inviting peaceful feeling or a scary mysterious, threatening, or uninvited feeling. They can be made from just about anything that creates an obstacle to enter a space. I have a number of gate images in my collection but I have a few weeks to scout out some more interesting inspirations. This topic may lead you to explore your neighbourhood. You never know what inspiration you might find.
Normally, I teach all year, but this year I will be traveling ACROSS CANADA ALL THE WAY TO NEWFOUNDLAND. You never know, I visit a town near you.
I CAN’T WAIT TO SHARE MY JOUNEY WITH YOU. I will post regularly on Facebook and on Instagram as I explore the communities along the way.
